North American Advanced Manufacturing Research & Education Initiative

The North American Advanced Manufacturing Research & Education Initiative is a U.S Department of Labor WIRED project devoted to developing a skilled and talented workforce and increasing business momentum of the Rio South Texas Region. Ultimately, it will provide a transformational opportunity for the region to lead the nation and the world in rapid response manufacturing. It will focus on the key elements of advanced manufacturing, such as product customization, customer choice, rapid product commercialization, lower production costs, and the ability to quickly deliver products to the consumer. America's Third Coast Research and Education Park will focus on ways to deliver faster development of customization products at a lower cost. A global private sector partner said it best, "this focus on rapid product commercialization and speed to market is the only way to ensure our companies survival."

Mission of the Park

The mission of the Park is to provide an environment that:

• Will foster economic development
• Stimulate the development of a knowledge based, research focused, advanced manufacturing cluster
• Provide a base from which The University of Texas-Pan American can expand their leadership role in the pioneering advances in rapid response manufacturing and product commercialization.
• Provide a base for collaboration, entrepreneurialism, and communication between NAAMREI Region's Universities, Community and Technical Colleges, PK-12 educational systems, advanced manufacturing companies and communities; and
• Provide state of the art research facilities for development of breakthrough advanced manufacturing.

Strategic Objectives of the Research Park

• Create public-private partnerships that provide joint research, technology transfer, student internships, faculty and graduate student consulting and job opportunities
• Enhance the growth opportunities of tenant companies through the creation of a research environment that will foster the creative talent and interaction of ideas to lead the world in next generation, rapid response advanced manufacturing and mass customization.
• Achieve world- class standards in all aspects of the development and operation of the McAllen Research Park by establishing an efficient, management structure and operational platform.

Desirable Research Park Amenities

The McAllen Advanced Manufacturing and Education Research Park will be a unique, mixed-use, research and educational development. The Research Park will provide and/or incorporate a full range of interactive research and development, education, training and/or public support services in an interrelated format. Tenants will consist of University, Community College, workforce training, government and corporate facilities.
